DIY Repair Hours
We offer Do-It-Yourself repair hours Thursday-Sunday 12-5pm. You bring your bike, we provide the tools, parts, and education to fix it!
Shopping Hours
We offer shopping hours Tuesday-Sunday 12-5pm. Note that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are shopping only and we do not offer repair services.
Bike & Parts Donations
We accept donations anytime during open hours! See our donation guidelines below.
What is the Bike Kitchen?
The SLO Bike Kitchen is an educational bike repair shop, offering DIY repair services as well as sales of used/refurbished bikes and bike parts. We teach you how to repair your bike! You can visit us for shopping Tuesday through Sunday each week, or come by for help with your repairs Thursday through Sunday.
We provide free diagnosis, and $10/hour for DIY repairs. We stock used parts for cheap, as well as new items such as chains and cables. If you have any questions about our stock at the shop, you can email kitchen@bikeslocounty.org for more information. No experience required!
We are a program of Bike SLO County, which offers a variety of programs that advocate for and support bikes in SLO County!

Volunteering with the Bike Kitchen
The work we do at the Bike Kitchen is made possible in large part by our dedicated volunteers! We gladly host volunteers any day we’re open, and sometimes during off-hours.
Bike Kitchen Volunteer Roles
Volunteer Mechanic
(requires advance training)
Guiding customers through DIY repair
Teaching customers repair techniques and how to use tools properly
Assessing, refurbishing, repairing, and breaking down donated bikes
Sorting donated parts into parts bins
Shop Assistant
Greeting customers and answering questions
Orienting DIY customers to the space (locations of tools and supplies, stand use, shop policies)
Assisting staff with maintaining a clean and organized shop space

Donation Guidelines
We accept many types of donations, but some are more difficult for us to make use of.
We have a busy operation and a residential-sized trash bin, so we ask that you use the submission form below to ensure we can accept your donation! (Especially important for questionable or larger donations.)
What we love:
Complete bikes (wheels intact, most components) that have minimal rust damage to frame and components
Parts/components of all eras and varieties
Bike parts and components of various eras and types
What we can’t accept:
Department store bikes (kent, mongoose, etc.)
Bikes with heavy corrosion/frozen components
Bare frames
Trainers
